HET 0101 – Standard Workplace Safety, Materials and Tools
(40hrs, non-credit)

This course provides instruction on safety legislation, regulations and industry policy in the Trades; climbing, lifting, rigging and hoisting; hazardous materials and fire protection; communications and trade specific safety; materials and fastening devices; hand, shop and power tools; measuring tools; and oxyacetylene equipment, heating and cutting.

HET 0102 – Suspensions, Wheels and Systems
(53hrs, non-credit)

This course provides instruction on frame and suspension fundamentals and service; bearings and seals; wheels, tires, and hubs; trailer systems and components; coupling units fundamentals and service; landing gear fundamentals and service; orientation to trailer inspection; and preventative maintenance.

HET 0104 – Electrical 1 and Electronics 1
(53hrs, non-credit)

This course provides instruction on electrical theory; electrical circuits; magnetism; test equipment; battery fundamentals and service; electrical wiring, lighting circuits and circuit protection; basic electronics; and electronic control systems.

HET 0106 – Air Brakes
(45hrs, non-credit)

This course provides instruction on air brake system fundamentals, air brake system mechanical components, truck/tractor air brake system components, trailer air brake system components, air brake testing and service, and air antilock brake system fundamentals.

 

HET 0107 – Hydraulics 1 and Hydraulic Brake Systems
(49hrs, non-credit)

This course provides instruction on hydraulic brake system fundamentals, hydraulic brake systems (drum and disc), hydraulic brake system diagnosis and service, hydraulic brake booster system fundamentals and service, parking brake system fundamentals and service, electric brake fundamentals and service, hydraulic fundamentals, hydraulic system components:  reservoir, filters, hoses and coolers, and hydraulic system components:  pumps, valves and cylinders.

HET 0108 – Shop 1
(0hrs, non-credit)

This course provides instruction and practical experience in a shop setting. Participants are given an opportunity for skill development whereby they apply program concepts gained in the classroom through a series of practical applications. Participants will fabricate a metal bar using a variety of tools; perform calculations and measurements using basic, precision, and tourquing tools; diagnose and service bearing and seal faults; and service trailer coupling systems.

HET 0208 – Shop 2
(0hrs, non-credit)

This course provides instruction and practical experience in a shop setting. Participants are given an opportunity for skill development whereby they apply program concepts gained in the classroom through a series of practical applications. Participants will perform preventative and reparative maintenance on:  engines, fuel injection systems, charging and cranking systems, and related components. Participants will also use electronic diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot system faults. 

HET 0211 – Engine Fundamentals, Service and Repair
(75hrs, non-credit)

This course provides instruction on engine fundamentals; engine block and cylinder liner fundamentals and service; piston, piston rings and connecting rod fundamentals and service; crankshaft, bearings and related component fundamentals and service; camshaft and follower fundamentals and service; cylinder head fundamentals and service; and engine braking system fundamentals and service.

HET 0212 – Engine Systems
(28hrs, non-credit)

This course provides instruction on air induction and exhaust systems, turbo charged air systems, lubrication systems and crankcase ventilation, and cooling systems (liquid and air).

HET 0213 – Diesel Fuel Injection Systems
(33hrs, non-credit)

This course provides instruction on diesel fuel and storage tanks (machine and bulk storage), combustion process and starting aids, mechanical fuel injection system, fuel, system service, advanced mechanical fuel injection systems, basic diesel engine and fuel system testing and adjusting, and emergency shut-down systems.

HET 0214 – Electronics Fuel Management
(54hrs, non-credit)

This course provides instruction on electronic fuel system fundamentals, electronic controlled fuel injection systems, electronic fuel system diagnosis, and emission control/after treatment systems.

HET 0215 –  Heavy Duty Charging and Cranking Systems
(50hrs, non-credit)

This course provides instruction on charging system and control circuit fundamentals, charging system testing and service, cranking system fundamentals and motor drives, cranking system control circuits, cranking system testing and service, and non-electric cranking systems.
