Welcome to Aurora College. On behalf of our academic community, I thank you for your interest and I encourage you to continue to explore more about what we have to offer.

For more than 50 years, Aurora College has provided quality education and research opportunities for the residents of the Northwest Territories and beyond. There are a number of ways to connect with us.  If you prefer a face-to-face interaction, you could drop in at one of our three campuses: Yellowknife North Slave Campus in Yellowknife, Thebacha Campus in Fort Smith or Aurora Campus in Inuvik. You could also connect with a community adult educator in one of our 21 Community Learning Centres across the NWT. If you are technologically savvy, you can continue to browse our programs online on this website.

Our mission is to demonstrate leadership in the delivery of relevant and meaningful education and research rooted in strong connections to Northern land, tradition, community and people.

Regardless of where you are in your educational journey, there is a place for you at Aurora College, where you will find a team committed to your success. With support and guidance from faculty and staff, students can pursue trades careers, certificates, diplomas and degrees. Although we focus on academic activities, Aurora College offers other activities related to wellness, on-the-land opportunities, international travel opportunities and cultural celebrations. These additional activities provide students with a holistic educational experience.

Aurora College also provides extensive basic skills training, academic upgrading and innovative student support services including academic planning, transfer assistance and tutoring. Our academic planning helps students to find a pathway from where they are now to a credential they are hoping to achieve. It is important to us that we understand what success means for each student while we help them to plan for their program. We offer laddering programs that prepare students for certificate, diploma and degree programming. Our ultimate goal is to help students meet their educational goals and begin the next phase of their lives.

Aurora College is committed to excellence and a culture of continuous improvement. To that end, we are transforming into a polytechnic university to provide even more opportunities for Northerners with the same core values; we are learning-centred and will meet students where they are in their educational journey. Our transformation will take several years but we will continue to offer our programming while transforming so as not to delay learning opportunities for our students. Our overall goal is an ABC approach to learning. A stands for increasing ACCESS; B stands for removing BARRIERS to learning and C represents our commitment to CONTINUOUS QUALTY IMPROVEMENT. It is important to us – and all of our students – that our programs meet national standards.

I am honoured to be a part of the Aurora College community, a community that is ready to help you reach your goals. I look forward to seeing you on one of our campuses and I encourage you to share your journey with us as you move through your program. Lessons you learn along the way will be helpful for other students.
