Mary Cazon Memorial Award

Deadline: June 30th — Value: $3000 — This award was established to honour Mary Cazon, a well-respected Elder of the Dehcho. Mary was born in Fort Providence in 1939 and was raised in the Dehcho Territory. She lived a very traditional life and raised her children within the values of the Dene lifestyle. Her traditional knowledge expertise was comprised of tanning animal hides, medicinal remedies, and traditional sewing. Mary was passionate about instilling traditional knowledge and values to the new generations. She provided political advice to the Dehcho Leadership and had the highest priority for land protection as she believed that the land defines you as Dene. $3,000 each will be awarded annually to two Dehcho Dene post-secondary students pursuing studies in Environmental Sciences, Health & Wellness and/or Naturopathy.

Rio Tinto Diavik Diamond Mine Community Scholarship

Deadline: May 15th — Value: $2000 — Established in 2013 by Rio Tinto Diavik Diamond Mines Inc., this Fund was established to assist individuals pursuing a career in mining or resource development. Three scholarships of $2,000 each will be awarded provided suitable applicants are selected. The first scholarship (Mining) will be available for students whose area of study has a focus on mining, mineral, geological, or geomatics engineering, and/or mining-related trades. The second scholarship (Mining Support) will be available for students whose area of study has a focus on geology, environmental or earth sciences, communities, communications, finance, or procurement. The third scholarship (STEM) will be available for female students whose area of focus is in fields related to science, technology, engineering, or math.

Thebacha Campus Student Association Student of the Year Award

Deadline: March 31st — Value: $100 — Awarded for outstanding leadership in student interests, issues, and activities. Any student who is in a full-time program (a six-month-plus program and having a 60 percent class workload) is eligible for nomination. Staff and students are able to nominate students for this award. Nominators must give a brief summary of reasons why they feel the student qualifies. The award is dependent on the voting results of the Thebacha Campus student body. This award is by nomination by any Aurora College student member.

Deadline: March 31st — Value: $250 — This award is presented at Convocation by the Town of Fort Smith to a full-time Thebacha Campus student who has had excellent attendance, excellent academic achievement, and has demonstrated community involvement.

SLR Consulting Bursary For 2nd Year Students

Deadline: October 15th — Value: $1000 — This bursary is available to students who are enrolled in the 2nd year of the Environment Natural Resource Technology Program. Applicants must be residents of the Northwest Territories. First Nations, Inuit or Metis students will be given priority. Preference will be given to applicants who have achieved a minimum overall average of 70% in their first year of the program. Applicants who can clearly demonstrate their commitment to the field of Environmental and Natural Resource through involvement in related volunteer and/or paid work and/or hobbies are also preferred.

Deadline: March 26th — Value: $1000 — Stantec has established a scholarship for students attending the Environment and Natural Resources Technology Program at Aurora College. The applicant must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident enrolled full-time in the Environment and Natural Resources Technology Program. The applicant must demonstrate the ability to provide leadership or academic excellence through either a GPA of 3.0 (70% or higher) in your most recent year of College, or a letter of reference from your employer addressing your ability to provide leadership in your area of study.
