To prepare Aboriginal
and Northern teachers to do the following:

To use a variety of approaches to teaching in order to
meet the educational needs of NWT children;
·
To facilitate a positive classroom learning environment;
·
To teach all subjects competently in the elementary
grades (K-9);
·
To meet the needs of each child placed in his/her
classroom;
·
To work effectively and independently in a Northern
classroom;
·
To use a variety of assessment/evaluation tools and
procedures in the classroom;
·
To become knowledgeable about the Education Act, NWT,
Pan-Canadian, and Western and Northern Canadian (WNCP) curriculum protocols;
·
To integrate Aboriginal cultural perspectives in the
classroom;
·
To utilize a variety of community and traditional
knowledge resources in the classroom; and
·
To continue in other institutions of higher learning if
he/she wishes to continue his/her studies.
