Thebacha Campus Accommodations

On Thebacha Campus, housing is limited and each year a priority list is established by program for housing.

Below is the program priority list for the 2018-19 academic year:

Exception at Yellowknife North Slave (YKNS) Campus: Personal Support Worker students at YKNS campus only are included in Priority 2 along with diploma programs. UCAP – Nursing Pathway students have priority at YKNS Campus after other Diploma students and PSW students (except for BA students). Business Administration students at YKNS campus only have lower priority than other programs in this group
3. Certificate Programs

Exception at YKNS Campus: Personal Support Worker students at YKNS campus only are included in Priority 2 along with diploma programs
4.UCAP and OCAP Programs

Note: If the program of study is offered in the applicant’s home community, they may receive lower priority as per Policy D.05. Nursing Pathway students at YKNS Campus only are included in Priority 2 along with diploma programs.
5. Developmental Studies

Note: If the program of study is offered in the applicant’s home community, they may receive lower priority as per Policy D.05.
6. Short Term Trades Programs

Note: Short term trades students (i.e. less than 4 months) are primarily placed in single student dorms and not provided with family housing.
7. International Students

Note: A limited number of international students may be given early acceptance for single student residence in Inuvik for 2016/17 only.

Breynat Hall (Single Residence)

Aurora College is a learning environment in many aspects besides the classroom. Students who live in the college residence gain the experience of living in a community environment. They learn to live with and share with others in a cross-cultural community. 

The single student residence offers student accommodation to single students. 

All rooms are double occupancy, depending upon enrolments students may have to share a room, and are equipped with 2 twin beds, 2 mattress covers, 2 desks, 2 desk chairs, 2 lamps, 2 wardrobes, and 2 lounge chairs.

You must bring bring personal bedding, pillow, towels, hangers, and other personal items. Storage and closet space are limited. 

Breynat Hall accommodation costs $11.67/day. 

Beginning July 1, 2018, free laundry facilities will be available in each wing of Breynat Hall.


Upon check in you will received 3 or 4 keys (1 to your room, your kitchen, and front entrance.  Females in the 400 wing will receive an additional key for that wing) The inside front doors of Breynat Hall are locked every day from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. There is a direct line to the Residence Life Supervisor on duty in the front entrance.  Should you lose your keys, there is a $200.00 replacement fee which will be charged.


Students living in Breynat Hall will be providing their own meals. Students now have the opportunity to bring their own country food, while attending college 

Kitchenettes are located on each wing of Breynat Hall. Six to eight people share each kitchen. Whenever possible, students may choose their kitchen mates. Garbage will be emptied daily in each kitchenette. Students are responsible for keeping these shared spaces clean, supplies will be provided.  Staff will clean kitchens as and when required, fees may be charged to those assigned that space. 

The kitchenettes are equipped with a locked cupboard and fridge for each student and are furnished with two microwaves, countertop burners and a wall-mounted oven (timers will shut off all ovens & burners in the kitchenettes from 11:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m. daily). A shared freezer is provided in each kitchen.  Aurora College does not provide dishes, cutlery, pots, pans, coffee pots, toasters, baking dishes, etc.  There are some gently used items in the kitchens which others have left behind.  We recommend you bring a personal dish set, cutlery, pot, fry pan, and coffee maker as required. 

Student Lounges

Television lounges are located throughout the residence. Lounges are equipped with DVD players and satellite TV.


Wireless internet is available at Breynat Hall.  The signal strength is moderate and will provide for access to coursework, and general surfing.  Streaming of online video is not typically possible.


Pay phones are located in each wing of Breynat Hall. Incoming calls can not be received on these phones. Messages can be left at (867) 872-7538. All phone messages will be pinned to the bulletin board outside the Residence Life Supervisor Office. Please remember to check for messages.


Internal mailboxes are available.Mail is delivered to the Breynat Hall office Monday through Friday, and is sorted and placed in assigned mailboxes.

Family Housing

Thebacha Campus is pleased to offer family accommodations. These accommodations are located throughout the community. There are several different sized units available including one, two, three, and four bedroom units. Each unit is furnished except for bedding, cutlery, dishes, cooking utensils, vacuum cleaners, and electronic devices.

Students are not able to bring large pieces of furniture of these residence locations.

These accommodations are provided to out of town, full time students only. No accommodations are provided for local students, except in exceptional circumstances as approved by the Campus Director. Long term students will have first priority to living accommodations. Students having outstanding accounts with the College will be refused accommodations at the discretion of the finance officer.
